March 2nd Luncheon – Slade Blackwell
Please join us for our March 2nd Luncheon with Slade Blackwell
Lunch begins at 11:45 am and the meeting will begin promptly at noon at The Harbert Center.
Slade Blackwell is the Chairman for the grass-roots citizens’ coalition, JeffCoCan, a group dedicated to finding a solution to the sewer debt crisis in Jefferson County. Slade started JeffCoCan in November 2009 to focus on two things: helping develop a reasonable solution to the sewer debt crisis and calling on elected officials, business leaders, and citizens in Jefferson County to come together in support of that solution.
Additionally, Slade is the co-founder and managing partner of IKANA Development, a commercial real estate development company focused on healthcare and banking industries. Development projects for INKANA include professional office buildings, medical office buildings, wellness centers, rehabilitation hospitals, surgery centers, parking decks and build-to-suit projects. Slade is also the founder and president of INKANA Properties where he handles the everyday real estate operations and is in charge of the company’s assets which exceed $35 million.
Prior to founding INKANA in 1997, Slade worked at Colonial Properties Trust as the Acquisitions and Development Manager and at Capital Properties as a leasing associate.
Slade received his degree in Commercial Design and Business Administration from the University of Montevallo where he also received a full basketball scholarship.
Slade is currently a member of the Business Council of Alabama, the Birmingham Business Alliance, the Mountain Brook Chamber of Commerce, the Birmingham Golf Association Board, and the Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, Slade is a member of the Pinson Education Foundation and was recently selected to the Multiple Sclerosis Birmingham Leadership Class of 2010. He is married to Dr. Sally Salter-Blackwell, a surgeon at St. Vincent’s, and together they have three children: Colby, Grant and Hagen.
